Florida Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program
Elizabeth Winchester
Derelict fishing gear is one of the main priorities in the Marine Debris Reduction Guidance Plan. Fishing line is an example of gear that causes detrimental wildlife and habitat impacts. The Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program (MRRP) is a statewide project dedicated to the reduction of environmental damage caused by discarded fishing line. The MRRP aims to educate the public on the problems caused by monofilament line left in the environment, encourages recycling through a network of line recycling bins and drop-off locations, and helps citizens host volunteer cleanup events.
